SAVE YOUR SIGHT!

At The Retina Centre our ultimate goal is to save our patients sight.
In Australia, two of the leading causes of vision loss are Age Related Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Retinopathy.
Age Related Macular Degeneration is a degenerative disease of the centre of the retina called the “macula” that causes progressive, painless loss of central vision. It affects the ability to see fine detail, drive, read and recognise faces. Age Related Macular Degeneration is most common amongst people aged 50 years and over.

Diabetic Retinopathy is a common complication of diabetes, in which the blood vessels become damaged and start to leak blood into the retina. More that 50% of people diagnosed with diabetes will develop retinopathy at some point in their life and there are often no obvious symptoms until the very late stages of the disease.

Fortunately patients can help save their sight by scheduling regular eye check ups with their eye health professional.
The Retina Centre is also offering a FREE specialised eye test called OCT (optical coherence tomography) in which a machine takes a scan of the retina centre (macula) showing cross section details of its layers. This test will identify any swelling caused by blood vessel leakage (macular oedema) and can help diagnose Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Retinopathy in their early stages.
The earlier these diseases are diagnosed the better the chance of preventing blindness.
